Una persona altamente calificada que se encarga de la producción de alimentos en una cocina comercial de un restaurante, hotel, complejo turístico , hospital o de cruceros se refiere normalmente como un chef. Sus funciones son muy diversas. Aparte de la gestión de la cocina y la supervisión de su personal, tienen que planificar menús, cálcular el coste de cada plato, y gestionar los inventarios y adquisición de materia prima.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre un chef profesional y un cocinero?

Aunque muy a menudo los dos términos chef y cocinero se utilizan indistintamente para referirse a un individuo que produce comida en una cocina, para aquellos dentro del comercio gastronómico, hay una gran diferencia entre los dos. La diferencia radica básicamente en la educación y la experiencia. En el mundo de hoy una persona con un titulo de un instituto culinario que se une a una cocina comercial será reconocido como un sous chef en cuanto completen su formación.
